Chinese Turnip cake, or "Lo Bak Go" in Chinese, is a popular savoury dim sum originating from Cantonese cuisine. Made with shredded turnips, Chinese radishes, and rice flour, the mixture is seasoned with ingredients like dried shrimp, Chinese sausage, and mushrooms. The cake undergoes a meticulous process of grating, steaming, and pan-frying to achieve a crispy exterior and a soft, flavourful interior.

Easy Peasy Chinese Turnip Cake Recipe (蘿蔔糕 Lo Bak Go)



Ingredients

 

Step 1: Peel and cut the radish into shreds and chunks.

Step 2: Boil the radish, do not discard the radish water, put it aside to use later.

Step 3: Steam the Lap Cheong (Pork Sausage) and cut it into small pieces.

Step 4: Stir-fry the radish and Lap Cheong (Pork Sausage). Add 2 tbsps of sugar, 1.5 tbsps of salt, 2 tbsps of oyster sauce, and 0.5 tbsps of white pepper.

Step 5: Boil dried scallops and dried shrimp, keeping the boiled water for later use.

Step 6: Sift 200g of rice flour, 50g of wheat starch, and 12g of water chestnut flour. Mix them together.

Step 7: Add 250ml of the boiled dried scallops and shrimp water to the flour mixture, and add a little bit of oil.

Step 8: Mix the flour, radish, and Lap Cheong (Pork Sausage).

Step 9: Steam and cool it down.
